I’ve just been in-touch with my good friend and colleague, Pete Pi Jr, of Defiant Munitions.
Defiant’s 9mm TCX 115gr +p round represents my current first choice for serious personal defensive purposes. I have it in my carry-pistol right now!
I’ve shot much gelatin with this round, along with a few pigs. From my Shadow Systems MR920, velocity is right at 1200 f/s, and very consistent. Penetration is uniformly 23cm-38cm (9″-15″), and I’ve never seen one fail to expand.
For my VHS2 (and M4), My current first choice is Defiant’s TCX, 55gr. I’ve also shot much gelatin with this round, as well as more than a few pigs, sheep, goats, Audads, and deer, and it is astonishingly lethal! Velocity is 3.1k and up (depending on barrel length). The bullet always expands, as designed, but never fragments. Some like heaver bullets in 223/5.56×45, but for serious personal defensive purposes, this TCX 55gr round is “the way to go,” in my opinion.
