  • Description

The DTI Defensive Handgun Course is designed to prepare the responsible, adult gun owner to handle, maintain, safely store, and use their revolver safely, responsibly, correctly, and effectively, so that they are able to successfully handle nearly any personal protection situation.

You must have a suitable holster for your revolver. Most holsters of reasonable quality are acceptable. We will work with waist-band holsters (IWB or external), cross-draw holsters, shoulder-holsters, ankle-holsters, off-body carry (handbags, purses). We assume concealed carry, unless you are a police officer and want to work out of your patrol, duty gear.

Be sure you bring with you the required number of rounds of revolver ammunition (300) at least two speed-loaders (or speed-strips, loops, or similar ammunition carriers), eye (safety glasses) and hearing protection, a sturdy leather or fabric belt (when you're using a waist-band holster), and a baseball cap. As noted above, our work will be from a concealed draw, so please make sure your equipment is genuinely concealable and suitable for continuous, daily wear.

We will accept most reputable revolvers in 38Spl, 357Mg, 44Spl, 44Mg, 32S&W, 32 H&R Magnum, or 327 Federal Magnum

Revolvers chambered for 22 rimfire are not acceptable.

Back-up pistols are acceptable, but not required, for this Course.

The course will entail some physical activity, so you will need to dress appropriately (long pants, long-sleeve shirt, sturdy shoes). You may get dirty, so wear something heavy-duty but inexpensive. Sweat pants, shorts, and short-sleeve shirts are not recommended. You should also bring along an old sports coat or jacket, so that you will able to practice your draw from concealment.

Required safety equipment includes hearing protection (earmuffs and/or plugs), safety glasses, and a baseball cap.  Sunscreen is recommended.

Finally, you will need a gun-rug or box, so that you can safely carry your gun on and off the range, unless, of course, you are authorized to carry concealed, in which case I presume you will be carrying to and from the range.
