Independence Day, 2026
On 19 April 1775 our American Revolutionary War begins, with first shots fired at Lexington and Concord
Adoption of our Declaration of Independence is on 4 July 1776, and our nation is officially founded
War “officially ends” on 2 Sept 1783. “Smart money” had not been on the Colonists, but defying all odds, Americans won, or at least persuaded Britain to recognized this new nation, this former colony, and pull-out its troops.
Our Constitution is written in 1787, ratified in 1788.
Our Second Amendment, along with the rest of our Bill of Rights, is passed by Congress on 25 September 1789, ratified on 15 December 1791. There is opposition to including this “Bill of Rights,” as some thought it could be interpreted as “limiting” individual rights to only these ten. But in the end, our Bill of Rights becomes an integral part of our Constitution.
The American Revolutionary War was as much a civil war as a War of Independence. Throughout the Revolutionary Period, British nationals, British loyalists, their Indian allies, and many common criminal allies openly attacked our civilian population, as civilians of the era enjoyed scant protection from any level of government. Such systematic criminality, including raids and robberies and more than one significant massacre, took place for decades, all with little organized opposition.
War of 1812 begins on 18 June 1812 and is little more than a continuation of the Revolutionary War. Britain never had any intention of observing terms of the treaty of 1783. More raids and massacres of the innocent. That War officially ends on 17 Feb 1815, once more with an American victory.
Yet, in 1818, Andrew Jackson captures and executes two British nationals who are inciting Seminole Indians in FL. These two are generally considered the last casualties of the American Revolutionary War, which began forty years earlier!
Our Founders were keenly aware of the criticality of an individually armed citizenry, “ordinary” citizens who unilaterally kept an bore privately-owned guns. Our Second Amendment had nothing to do with “sporting issues!”
Our Second Amendment has been under continuous attack ever since!
Attackers include the modern equivalent of British loyalists of the Revolutionary era. They have never embraced individual liberty and economic freedom, preferring instead the “ruling-class-and-peon-model” which one finds most other places in the world.
These feudalists are, and have always been, traitors. They would feel much more at home in the “Old World,” that our audacious ancestors fought so hard to get away from!
Tomorrow, we celebrate that we have been able to mostly hold-out against them, at least thus far!
“The party that promises you a ‘free lunch,’ on someone else’s back, without fail will come back for your lunch too!”
