Verity and nonsense!
“Personal safety advice,” emanating from mouths of politicians and media personalities (all of whom enjoy constant attention from ever-present, heavily-armed bodyguards), should always be looked upon with a jaundiced eye. Time and again, the media cites “security experts” and their recommendations on “how you can stay safe.” I seldom hear sound advice from any of these people!
Politicians, public officials, and media “personalities” strictly advance their own pet political agendas, and not surprisingly their own personal safety is extremely high on their “list of priorities”
Yours is not!
Typical nonsense:
“These premises are ‘protected’ by CCTV”
Cameras “protect” nothing, particularly cameras that no one is monitoring. CCTV cameras “protecting” businesses are there primarily for “loss prevention,” and are present only at the insistence of insurance companies. Any “protection” you personally enjoy will be provided by yourself!
“Gun-Free Zone”
This deceitful prevarication exists only in the minds of those stupid enough to believe such a thing is even possible! VCAs, as well as Operators, routinely, and most contemptuously, ignore such signs!
“There is no threat to the general public,” and “This is not a ‘terrorist incident’”
Never believe this! Mayors, governors, and police executives don’t want anyone to think in terms of failure on their part, so they’re inclined to prematurely, dubiously claim there is no ongoing threat to citizens and that organized terrorists are not involved. “Arm yourselves and remain alert” often represents more honest and prudent advice, but you’ll seldom hear it.
“Remain in place and wait for rescue”
The famous “lock-down.” This represents a death-sentence for many! When shooting starts, you’re well advised to immediately seek hard cover and then look for a relatively safe exit from the area. Staying in a dangerous place and patiently waiting for rescuers to locate you is usually a poor tactic.
“Give VCAs what they want (presumptively anything)”
Who knows want they “want?” What if they “want” to murder you? Are you going to “give them” that too? The foregoing are questions media “experts” never seem anxious to answer.
America is currently awash with unstable people who lack “impulse control,” because they believe (correctly) that they will never face consequences for their evil acts. They also believe (correctly) that leftist politicians are solidly on their side.
Thus, unstable persons, acting suspiciously, demand our attention. Disengage and separate immediately. Don’t be there to begin with. Stay alert. Go armed.
“Rescue in the nick of time” makes great dramatic fodder for novels and movies, but is otherwise mostly fantasy. Who rely upon “rescue” as the centerpiece of their “personal security plan” (in which they are otherwise non-participants) do so at their peril!
“Cogito, ergo armatum sum”
I think, therefore I am armed.
