This just in from a friend in the State Patrol:

“Last week one of our local deputies incurred a self-inflicted bullet wound to his right foot. He was outside his house in his back yard, trying to shoo away a stray dog. He had his department-issued pistol in his right hand and was waving it around. His own dog then came up behind him and stuck his cold nose between the officer’s legs! It must have been quite a surprise, because the officer’s pistol AD’d straightaway, causing his injury.

Lessons: (1) If you think you’re immune to the startle response, read the foregoing once more. (2) If you never point your gun at yourself, you’ll never shoot yourself!
