Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
A Latin phrase, traditionally attributed to the Roman poet Juvenal, from his âSatires.â It loosely translates to:
âWho will guard the guards?
Somebody, nobody, and who!
In this Age of Islamic Terrorism, we all need to do an adequate job of maintaining all-around security. The âThree Invisiblesâ mentioned above are naively relied upon all too much!
Just last week, four NYPD rookies, who all courteously faced to the front, at the same time, in order to be photographed by a tourist, were precipitously attacked by a hatchet-wielding jihadist, from behind.
One of them should have been watching their backs!
In our Courses, the assumption is usually that youâre by yourself, and I constantly ask my students, â… and who is watching your back?â
We need to keep our heads up and be looking all around, constantly! Your superlative fighting skills will be rendered irrelevant when you never see the threat(s) coming!
Donât rely on the âThree Invisibles!â We need to keep our priorities straight. We need to live in the present tense!
