“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be ‘corrected’ by good men with rifles!”

Jeff Cooper

“Make good scouts of yourselves. Become good rifle shots so that, when it becomes necessary that you defend your families and your country, you can actually do it!”

Modern Urban Rifle Training:

At an Urban Rifle Program last weekend in IN, we, once again, had the honor of training-up a new and enthusiastic group of accomplished and confident American Riflemen!

My instructors and I dearly love to conduct Defensive Pistol Courses, and we do at every opportunity. Yet, the modern, military rifle (AR, XCR, PTR, M1A, FAL, 556SIG, Kalashnikov, et al) is the real “Freedom Gun,” the genuine “Defender of Liberty” a copy of which all Americans should have, and with which all real Americans should be intimately familiar

The vast majority of rifle challenges with which I present my students are point-blank out to 100m. We emphasize speed, smoothness, precision, and decisiveness. Students need to know how to run a rifle trigger, reload on the run, reduce stoppages, fire effectively from either shoulder, shoot one-handed when necessary, keep from being disarmed, smoothly transition to a pistol (and back) when necessary, effectively use cover and movement, and incessantly seek a way to win!

As with pistols, we run a “hot” rifle range. Modern, military rifles are designed to be carried loaded, and we do! Students need to become accustomed to it and comfortable with it. Muzzle consciousness and finger/trigger awareness, as well as maintaining the correct position of the manual safety lever, are skills as important as practical marksmanship.

When we take breaks, go to the restroom, and eat lunch, rifles stay with students and stay loaded. A challenge can come at any time!

Courageous American riflemen have been called upon to rescue history, more than once, and I’m persuaded we’ll have to do it again, maybe sooner than any of us think!

I’m proud to say that we are relentlessly advancing the Art, and that my students are equal to the task!
