“The most expensive four words in the English Language:
‘This time it’s different!’”
John Templeton
On North Korea, from a friend in the System:
“Until recently, all Swiss border-tunnels and bridges were mined, and could be blown within hours. Add this to the high survivability of their people, equipment, and tactical air-assets, and the Swiss present a real porcupine to any invader. In view of current world events, namely North Korea’s ICBMs in Asia and Russian aggression in Europe, the Swiss are likely to re-harden borders. In fact, they’re probably doing it now!
Sweden has just re-activated its civil-defense shelter program, and reinstated the draft.
The Baltics are arming and training citizen ‘volunteers’ of military age, all in an effort to turn their countries into ‘instant insurgencies’ upon invasion, which they firmly believe is coming, either from Russians, or Islamics.
They’ve been through all this before!
Over here, our naive and disconnected ‘media’ is transfixed on DJTs’ imagined ‘Russian connection.’
Under JEC and WJC, the last vestiges of American civil defense were foolishly abandoned, smugly dismissed by liberals as ‘irrelevant.’
RWR tried to revive the Program, at least to ‘maintenance’ levels, but was self-righteously mocked by liberals, who called him ‘out-of-touch.’
Suddenly, a psychopathic ulcer in North Korea has arrived at our city gates, with nuclear-tipped ICBMs (about which our last four administrations did nothing)!
Even during the Cold War, unlike the Swiss, we never built shelters. We just ‘inspected’ large buildings and arbitrarily designated their basements ‘fallout-shelters.’ Today, almost none are supplied with food, water, nor any other essentials, so none, even when used, could be occupied for more than a few days.
All this time, you can bet sophisticated and hardened facilities designed to house government officials were/are well-supplied and maintained, and have formidable blast-doors, air-handling systems, flush-toilets, and kids with M4s at the door!
Out here, the nervous and naive still foolishly believe that in a city the size of Los Angeles, for example, 8k police are somehow going to ‘take care of’ ten-million citizens, in a nuclear attack!
The wise know this is nonsense. We are all ‘on our own!’
History is replete with examples of ‘upset victories,’ where small, crudely-equipped, but nimble and determined armies innovated and adapted faster than ponderous, overconfident opponents.
The next war will be no different!”
“Tacitus laughed at Germanic tribes who tried to stop a torrent with their shields, but it is no less naive to believe in the establishment by purely human means of a society fully satisfied and perfectly inoffensive, and continuing to progress indefinitely.
All this proves that man, though he has become less naive in some things, has nonetheless learned nothing as far as essentials are concerned; the only thing of which man is capable, when left to himself, is to ‘commit old sins in new ways.’”
