US Marine Corps “law-enforcement personnel,” who “meet specific federal qualifications” (whatever that means) are now authorized to carry their personally-owned firearms (concealed) on-base, on-watch and off, so said a three-star today!
Privately-owned, personal weapons may be carried “for personal protection,” not necessarily in performance of official duties.
For the first time, “personal protection” has been officially articulated, and acknowledged as a real and legitimate need!
They’ve finally said it, out loud!
This represents forward progress, albeit glacial, but we must ask why the Commandant of the USMC still does not trust ALL Marine commissioned officers, warrant officers and NCOs of grade E-6 and above, to routinely carry concealed pistols, regardless of MOS!
Are lives of combat-arms Marines somehow less important than those of MPs?
We’re all hoping this announcement represents just a first step in the progressive arming of all service officers and staff NCOs.
It can’t happen fast enough!
