From a friend in Michigan:

“An on-duty Mt Pleasant police officer accidentally fired his weapon (Glock 22) after dropping it on the floor in his own home. Isabella County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the accidental discharge.

The officer, Anthony Leonard, called 911 after dropping his weapon and accidentally firing it when he reached down to pick it up. The errant bullet lodged in the floor and caused no further damage or injury.

Leonard, with the department for less than a year, underwent extensive weapons retraining over the following three days.”

Lesson: We see many people pick up guns and immediately wrap their finger around the trigger. The foregoing is why we correct that misguided practice immediately. Correct gun handling is an integral part of “Primary Competency.”

Happily, the department required to officer to undergo remedial training.
