2025 Shot Show, Second Day
At Shadow Systems’ booth I was introduced to their CA-compliant MR920 pistol.
CA requires a “magazine safety” on all new pistols sold, plus a “tactile loaded-chamber indicator” that must be a “contrasting color”
Shadow Systems has produced a fully-compliant version, submitted it for “testing,” and have since received approval!
I carry a Shadow Systems MR920 (non-compliant version), so I have a great deal of confidence in this pistol. It was explained to me that even with all the people currently moving out of CA, it still represents a big market, so the Shadow Systems folks have jumped through all the requiem hoops.
Many other manufacturers have not, and will not!
FN’s “Reflex” pistols are hammer-fired (internal) and thus have a very nice trigger, nicer than most striker-fired guns. Jointed trigger, rather than a tabbed-trigger.
The Reflex XLMRD (16-shooter) is the size of a G48, and the “regular” Reflex (12-shooter) is the size of the SA Hellcat. Both are double-column, but thin and thus well-suited for concealed carry. Manual safety is optional on the XLMRD, unavailable on the small Reflex
Kahr’s new X9 (11-shooter) is the same size as the SA Hellcat. Magazines are interchangeable with the Hellcat!
For comfortable concealed carry, I like both these offerings from Kahr and FN!
Daniel Defense, famous for their M4s, introduced their “H9″ Pistol last year, a resurrected version of the defunct “Hudson Pistol.”
There were a number of subsequent start-up problems, and a recall!
Today, I handled the all-steel “Gen 2″ version, and it is very smooth, albeit big, heavy, and pricey. However, given DD’s excellent reputation, I’m confident owners of the Gen 2 H9 will enjoy long and faithful service.
Yesterday, I failed to mention SIMX “Defense Core” 9mm pistol ammunition (standard pressure). It features a 45gr bullet that exits pistol barrels at 2200 f/s! The bullet is a brass jacket surrounding a plastic interior.
Penetration is limited, but the temporary cavity is huge.
I have not personally tested this round, but I will shortly.
Blue Force Gear, makers of the wonderful Vicker’s Sling, featured a new shotgun shell-holder that is relatively flat and easily attached to gear.
BFG’s line of innovative web gear and accessories is at the top of my List!
More tomorrow!
