“911 operators,” who are nothing more than voice-generating AI?

Lord, deliver us!

Gun-sales are about to spike, once more, in New Orleans as the fact that AI will now be running a major, leftist/Democrat-run city’s public-safety 911 system.

Today’s headline:

“New Orleans becomes the first major US city to use AI for 911 calls

The Orleans Parish Communication District, which receives over a thousand ‘emergency dials’ per day, among the highest volume in the country, is now routing all 911 calls to an ‘AI Agent,’ that determines the minuscule minority that get ‘bumped-up’ to a dwindling number of human dispatchers, and all ‘the others’ that ‘get handled’ only by AI”

Other Democrat-run metro areas will doubtless follow, no matter how badly this idea fails, because with Democrats, failure is never an issue!

In what is euphemistically referred to as  “call triage,” New Orleans, frantically trying to eliminate human dispatchers (to whom they’re obligated to pay salaries), AI will now “analyze calls” in order to determine which need to be handled by genuine humans.

What could possibly go wrong?

This trend should frighten the hell out of anyone who has ever called their credit-card’s 800 number!

As the AI-generated voice answers and then immediately chatters-on, regurgitating endless irrelevant gibberish, never giving you an opportunity to get a word in edgewise, so that you can actually tell it why you’re calling, you have to firmly reiterate at least a dozen times that you need to talk with a real person.

It takes as long as twenty minutes of repeatedly insisting that you need to talk with a genuine human that you finally get to talk with one, and the “human” you, at long last, get to talk with is invariably a Pakistani, who is talking with you from somewhere in Pakistan!

Of course, she can just barely speak any English and is thus nearly impossible to understand.  And, in “response” to your questions , she merely reads a line that appears on her computer screen, in most cases utterly irrelevant and unhelpful.

The foregoing is what Americans have sadly become accustomed to when attempting to access any species of so-called “customer service”

Thus, one can only shudder when contemplating how a lifeless, frigid “AI 911 operator” will handle a panicked, screaming, mostly incoherent voice on the other end of the line, speaking with a heavy accent, and with gunshots audible in the background!

Nonetheless, New Orleans “officials” insist “AI 911 operators” will be able to adequately serve the public, all with (ever diminishing) human oversight.

Most residents don’t share their naive enthusiasm, nor their pseudo optimism!

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust!”
