LVNR
Today, I attended a class on LVNR (Lateral Vascular Neck Restraint), probably the safest and most effective of all “Intermediate-Force Options” available to LEOs. Other intermediate-force options include Chemical Spray, Taser, Baton. The Bolo-Wrap, Bruiser, and shotgun-launched bean-bags can probably also be thrown-into that same category.
Martial artists and wrestlers have been very familiar with LVNR for centuries. They call it “The
Sleeper Hold,” and the technique is routinely practiced during modern martial-arts contests, worldwide. There has never been a recorded fatality!
No “equipment” is required, but correct training is of course. Carotid arteries on the sides of the neck are simply compressed (temporarily) via external arm pressure, which restricts blood-flow to the brain. The subject usually becomes comatose in less than twenty seconds. When pressure is subsequently released, the subject “wakes-up” (after some grogginess). But, during the brief time the subject is “passed-out,” or at least groggy, officers can apply handcuffs.
The deliberately ignorant (a category which includes most politicians, and all professing liberals) mistakenly call the LVNR a “choke-hold,” falsely implying that the windpipe is compressed, and the subject therefore can’t breath.
Not true, but this false narrative has been deceitfully promulgated by less-than-honest leftists to the point where the use of LVNR in successfully completing actively-resisted arrests has been prohibited in many blue states, always by pro-criminal Democrats.
Of course, these same Democrats are ruthlessly trying to ban Tasers, bean-bags, chemical sprays, and batons too. And not surprisingly, these same Democrats also want to ban all LEO lethal-force options (guns), with the exception of their own bodyguards.
LVNR is a truly useful and humane intermediate-force/restraint technique, far less risky than nearly all others. It is a terrible thing that the deliberately unenlightened have malevolently taken it from us!
