Israeli domestic politics are as vehemently fractured as are ours!

This from a friend in Israel, just received:

“Terrorists in Yemen fired a missile (supplied by Iran) at Jerusalem at 06:20 this morning.

To no one’s surprise, the missile was intercepted and destroyed by IDF before it ever entered Israel, and assorted missile fragments subsequently rained down upon Jordan, and Jordan is, once more, really upset with Israel. Jordan needs to be upset with Hooties and politely ask them to stop firing their ballistic missiles at Israel right over the Royal Kingdom of Jordan.  Amman, capital of Jordan, is close enough to Jerusalem be visible from my porch!

Of course, warning sirens blared here.  We are on the top (5th) floor of our building.  Half of our residents are elderly.  Difficult for them to get to the bomb shelter on the entry-level.  Yet, we are all advised, ‘Do not use the elevator when there is a warning siren.’  I’m not sure how all those elderly are supposed to get down the stairs in time for it to matter!

In any event, I have a supply of Chemsticks to crack, shake, and then drop down the stairways in order to illuminate the way (since power will likely be out).

I’m still ‘The Boy Scout.’

Gaza and Iran continue to frighten and bewilder us.  Israeli broadcast ‘news’ is nonsense! Talking heads go on and on, regurgitating endless empty speculation (not unlike your ‘mainstream’ media).  When our networks have (as usual) failed to report any actual news within the first ten minutes, we change channels!

Our national politics are insane!  IDF Reserves are burned-out.  We currently have over 7k wounded. Meanwhile, fewer than two-percent of eligible ultra-orthodox Israeli citizens report for induction.  Ultra-orthodox rabbis actually tell followers, ‘Better dead than in the IDF.’

In addition, they sternly instruct the Netanyahu Administration that the very first time an ultra-orthodox draftee, who failed to report for induction, is pursued by military police, ultra-orthodox political parties will instantly withdraw from the current fragile government coalition, thus throwing the entire nation into unworkable disarray.

Israeli society is as profoundly fractured as is America’s!”
