The role of “Armed Civilian Citizens” in national defense:

To the everlasting discredit of Israel’s (current) Netanyahu Administration, the entire nation of Israel was embarrassingly caught off-guard on the morning of 7 Oct 23.  Israel’s  blitzkrieg terrorist invasion came as a more-or-less complete surprise, and while the IDF swung-into action as quickly as it could, many innocents were murdered and taken hostage before IDF forces could get on the scene in adequate strength.

Yet in the southern Israeli Village of Ofakim, terrorist murders were significantly reduced as a direct result of swift and courageous action on the part of local gun-owning citizens.

IDF did not halt the terrorist murdering spree in Ofakim. Armed citizens, several off-watch police officers, and several on-leave Israeli soldiers and cadets from a nearby officer’s training base, did!

After a rocket barrage on the morning in question, two pick-up trucks filled with fifteen heavily-armed terrorists rolled into Ofakim.

Random murders of innocents commenced immediately!

Then, it was independent, loosely-organized, gun-owning citizens and off-watch soldiers and police (several of whom were killed/wounded in the process) who actively, systematically confronted (with gunfire, mostly via pistols), invading terrorists, killing most and ejecting the balance.

The city was only declared “cleared” by the IDF three days after the initial assault.

Thank Heaven at least a few audacious Israeli citizens were unwilling to wait-around for some elite political gas-bag to nonchalantly grant them “permission” to be armed!

In any event, privately-owned, personal guns, kept and carried for “serious purposes,” saved the day, in Ofakim and a few other places.

It won’t be the last time!

But maybe you should, when it prevents you from feeding yourself.”
