“We trust our eyes, but most of us see only what we wish to see, or what we sincerely believe we should be seeing, not what is actually there, right in front of us!”

Marriott

Yesterday’s precipitous, depraved double-homicide just outside the Jewish Museum in Washington DC illustrates, once again, the way lethal peril ever lurks, mostly invisible, just under the surface, particularly in places like Washington DC, and most particularly in and around what are seen as religious/political symbols.

Local police officers arrived on the scene within ten minutes, ultimately arresting the single suspect, without incident.

This event should cause us all to rethink so-called “protective barriers,” that are by-and-large merely symbolic, such as glass doors, CCTV cameras, unarmed “security guards,” and cynical signs that are erroneously assumed to “prohibit weapons!”

“Security officials” are sometimes not alert enough.  Simultaneously we, as individuals, need to fully realize that it is us who are fully responsible for making the “right call,” with regard to our continued good health.

“You’re on your own” means just that!

Remember on 9/11, when NY/NJ Port Authority “Security Officials” instructed people in the South WTC Tower to relax and return to their offices?

Many who obediently, naively complied never lived to see the end of that day!

Bestowing a “title” upon someone does not automatically confer competence, expertise, prudence, nor bravery.  Presumptuous titles, such as “Director of Security,” are often imparted for mostly political reasons, not necessarily upon the dauntless, nor the tactically competent.

Like it or not, we are in an “Age of Political Violence,” violence that is openly promoted, indeed endorsed, by major political parties (try wearing a “MAGA cap”), even entire foreign governments.

All Jewish Americans, along with Christians, should take note!
