“… and I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the rain”

From Who’ll Stop the Rain, written by John Fogerty in 1970, and sung by Ceedence Clearwater Revival in the 1978 film by the same name, staring Nick Nolte.

Embattled Broward County School District in FL, rather than looking for real solutions to the issue of armed school invaders shooting innocent students and (unarmed) staff, has turned instead to experimental surveillance software, an artificial-intelligence program, called “Avigilon,” that will, it is promised, unerringly identify all “human threats,” based on certain behaviors, types of dress, etc.

While I don’t want to be accused of asking inconvenient questions, I’m wondering what this software actually does, other than sound some kind of alarm.

Are there different “levels” of alarms?

How many of these “alarms” will the school have to deal with every day?

Who is going to physically confront subject(s) of these alarms?

Who among these is going to actually draw a gun from his holster and shoot-down armed and violent school invader(s), so he/they can go no further?

Will this human, armed school-protector be able to get to the critical place on time, or is he minutes/hours away?

Will target(s) of the machine’s “false positives” be permanently labeled as “dangerous,” (even though they have committed no offense) and thus suffer from the consequences of that inaccurate, but persistent, title forever, because the machine “just doesn’t like the way they look?”

Should anyone be surprised when those machine-identified as “suspects” must meet arbitrary racial and ethnic quotas?

Should anyone be surprised when only conservative Republicans, non-liberals, gun-owners, Jews, and Christians are “identified” and singled-out as “dangerous” and “suspect?”

Of course, no answer to any of the forgoing questions has been forthcoming!

All anyone wants to talk about is the “advanced sophistication” of this expensive software, upon which the lives of students and staff will solely depend.

Only “progressive” leftists so predictably twist themselves, compulsively and obsessively, into a Gordian Knot, all in an effort to avoid empowering good and decent staff members (even SROs) to be armed with real guns, and thus be in a timely position to actually, decisively stop armed, evil people.

So far, these liberal snowflakes have squandered an entire year (since the Parkland shooting), and all they have to show for it an unconditional embracing of “HAL” (the robot from the Film, 2001: A Space Odyssey) as a so-called “solution” to spree murders at public schools.

Will it surprise anyone when the progressive next focuses the full force of “Avigilon,” its favorite new “threat finder,” on who else but their critics and political opponents?

NRA members, and all Republicans stay tuned!

Due process is, once again, bypassed. Once the machine says “you’re guilty,” obviously no trial is necessary!
